EDEL Publishers of Lisbon announces the publication in translation of Alfred Lewis’s /Home Is an Island/, the bestselling novel by the most important Portuguese-American immigrant writer of the twentieth century.
This autobiographical novel-originally published by the prestigious Random House in 1951 in the same collection as /Catcher in the Rye/, by J. D. Salinger-appears in Portuguese as /Minha Ilha, Minha Casa/, with literary translation by the prominent Portuguese writer Rui Zink. /Minha Ilha, Minha Casa/ is the first volume in a new series, Portugal na América, developed by EDEL in partnership with the Luso-American Foundation and the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Center for Portuguese Studies and Culture. The second volume in Portugal na América, to be published this fall, will be the translation of Charles Reis Felix’s /Da Gama, Cary Grant, and the Election of 1934/ (2005), volume 5 of the Portuguese in the Americas Series. Rui Zink proposed and has supervised the new series in Portugal.
Launchings of /Minha Ilha, Minha Casa/, with presentations by Frank Sousa and Rui Zink, will take place in the Azores (Flores: Museu das Flores: Santa Cruz, June 12 at 9 p.m.; Terceira: Angra do Heroísmo, Palacete Silveira e Paulo, June 14 at 6:30 p.m.; São Miguel: Ponta Delgada, Biblioteca Pública, June 15 at 7 p.m.; São Jorge: Calheta, Museu Francisco de Lacerda, June 19 at 6 p.m.) and Lisbon (Luso-American Foundation: June 17 at 6 p.m.).
