roses, my love, to my country,

as life does not tire me out.

it matter to the one to whom 
nothing any longer matters that one wins 
and another loses, so long as dawn breaks

If each
year in the Spring leaves show forth

George Monteiro – Emérito Professor da Brown University. Um nome admirado e respeitado por sua grande contribuição à literatura Americana. Lecionou estudos portugueses e brasileiros na Universidade Brown, em Providence, Estados Unidos. Trabalhou como professor intercambista pelo Programa Fulbright em Literatura Americana no Brasil – São Paulo e Bahia –, no Equador e na Argentina, e como professor visitante na UFMG, em Belo Horizonte. É autor de vários livros, com destaque para Stephen Crane’s Blue Badge of Courage (2000), _Fernando Pessoa and Nineteenth-Century Anglo-American Literature_ (2000), The Presence of Pessoa (1998), The Presence of Camões (1996) e Critical Essays on Ernest Hemingway’s A Farewell to Arms (1994).
