Attorney General Doug Downey announced the appointment of Cidalia Faria to the Ontario Court of Justice, effective October 22, 2020.
Justice Cidalia Conceição Gouveia Faria was called to the bar in 1996 and has worked at the Ministry of the Attorney General for over 20 years as an assistant Crown attorney, practicing criminal law. She has prosecuted serious criminal offences and specialized prosecutions, in addition to a wide range of summary conviction offences. Justice Faria has appeared before the Ontario and Superior Courts of Justice and the Ontario Review Board. She is a graduate of Queens University and obtained her LL.M from Osgoode Hall Law School in 2001.Justice Faria is vice-president of the Abrigo Centre, which supports victims of violence and provides services to parents, youth and elders in the community. Justice Faria is a member of the Portuguese Canadian Lawyers Association and secretary of the Committee on Diversity and Inclusion for the Ontario Crown Attorneys Association. She has lectured at King’s University College (Western University) and has educated legal stakeholders and professionals in Tanzania about gender-based violence.

A Juíza Cidália Conceição Gouveia Faria integrou a Ordem dos Advogados em 1996 e pratica o direito penal no Ministério Público há mais de 20 anos como Advogada Assistente da Coroa. Processou crimes graves e processos especializados, além de uma ampla gama de crimes de condenação sumária. A Juíza Faria compareceu perante o Ontário e os Tribunais Superiores de Justiça, e o Conselho de Revisão do Ontário (Ontario Review Board).
A Juíza Faria formou-se na Queens University e obteve o Mestrado em Direito (LL.M.) na Escola de Direito, Osgoode Hall Law School, em 2001. É vice-presidente do Centro Abrigo, que apoia vítimas de violência e oferece serviços comunitários para pais, jovens e idosos; e é membro da Associação dos Advogados Luso-Canadianos e secretária do Comité para a Diversidade e Inclusão da Associação de Advogados da Coroa do Ontário Crown Attorneys Association. Lecionou na King’s University College (Western University) e formou interessados responsáveis legais e profissionais na Tanzânia sobre crimes de violência de género.
A Juíza-Chefe Lise Maisonneuve nomeou a Juíza Faria para Toronto.
