Miguel Figueiredo Corte-Real

NEW BEDFORD- Following a lengthy illness, Miguel Figueiredo Corte-Real, 85, of New Bedford, Massachusetts, USA died Friday, July 16, 2010 at home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Ponta Delgada, S. Miguel, Azores, Miguel Figueiredo Corte-Real resided in New Bedford since 1969.
Proud of his Portuguese heritage, he was a well known historian and genealogist at several universities and contributed to the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Ferreira-Mendes Portuguese-American Archives.
Mr. Corte-Real was a member of numerous organizations and served on many boards including the New Bedford Whaling Museum, Casa Da Saudade and Immigrants’ Assistance Center. He was also involved in politics on local and state levels, and he served in the Portuguese Army.
